Courses
Our courses engage with critical ideas, culture, and storytelling. In addition to multilevel digital color photography, you will explore a variety of photographic practices, including large-format printing, intermediate and advanced studio lighting, traditional and alternative development processes, and advanced editing techniques that encourage artistic risk-taking, critical thinking, and research.
The photography and video specialization within the BFA in visual arts also explores the redefinition of photography in a contemporary fine art context, allowing for experimentation with image appropriation, presentation, installation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Students complete three rigorous capstone courses (Theory and Practice, Professional Practices, and Senior Thesis) that culminate in an exhibition of their senior thesis portfolio.
Photography/video students have participated in internships at the likes of BET, Hearst Corp., Matthew Barney Studio, MTV, Nickelodeon, and Viacom Media; several have enrolled in graduate programs at Parsons School of Design and Maryland Institute College of Art.
Experiential Learning
The visual arts program takes advantage of the college’s proximity to major museums, galleries, and collections in New York City; Philadelphia; and Washington, D.C., to broaden your exposure to current trends and traditional concepts and techniques.
State-of-the-Art Facilities
The Art and Interactive Multimedia Building houses state-of-the-art computer labs and software, large lighting studio spaces, two specialty printing labs, and a traditional darkroom, offering you a contemporary and relevant learning environment.
