At TCNJ, you can earn a Bachelor of Arts degree through a self-designed major. This option is perfect for highly motivated and creative students like you who want to create a personalized academic path that existing programs don’t offer. If you’re looking to tailor your education to meet specific academic or career goals, you can work closely with faculty members to develop a customized curriculum that aligns with your aspirations. You’ll work closely with a faculty member who will guide you in developing your major and will serve as your academic advisor.

Undergraduate Program Option
MAJOR
To be eligible for consideration, you must complete at least one semester at TCNJ with not less than a 3.0 Grade Point Average. First-year applicants interested in the program can write to the coordinator anytime.

Among the self-designed majors that have already been approved are individualized studies of art conservation; Chinese language and culture; classical studies; cognitive science; creative writing; day-care administration; editing and publishing; education, race, and American culture; emergency management and preparedness; film and television production; French; Italian; Japanese; linguistics and Spanish; medical illustration; Middle Eastern studies; music journalism and communications; national security studies; pedagogical science; religious studies; and Russian studies.
Experiential Learning
You’ll have many opportunities to apply learning and practice skills throughout the program. You can participate in faculty-led research or pursue a mentored independent study or internship that furthers your understanding in an area of interest. You can also choose to get involved with any number of relevant student groups and organizations on campus.
