The RN to BSN program is designed for working registered nurses who hold an associate’s degree or diploma in nursing and want to continue their education by earning a BSN. Courses offer the flexibility busy professionals need, and classes are taught by master’s- and doctoral-level faculty who foster a supportive, student-centered learning environment.

Who Should Pursue This Program?
Admission to the RN to BSN program is limited to nurses who hold a diploma or associate’s degree in nursing and are licensed RNs in New Jersey. To support working nurses, classes meet once a week for three hours — either on campus or via Zoom in the evening. Our rigorous, student-centered program prepares you for advanced practice or leadership roles.
Application Requirements
Admission to the RN to BSN Program is restricted to nurses who are graduates of a diploma or associate’s degree program in nursing and are currently licensed to practice as an RN in New Jersey.
Requirements include:
- Associate’s degree or diploma in nursing from an accredited institution
- Current New Jersey Registered Professional Nurse license (by the end of the first semester of study)
- Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.

Application Instructions
Follow these step-by-step instructions:
- Visit our “Application Management” site to create an account.
- Once your account has been created and you have accessed your application portal, click the “Start New Application” link.
- Select “Undergraduate Application (desired year)” from the accompanying drop-down menu.
- Then select the “RN to BSN” application.
- Finally, click the “Create Application” button to start your application!
Competitive Tuition
Tuition is set at a competitive flat rate of $400 per credit, totaling $1,600 per course. Your final degree cost is variable since the total depends on your prior academic background and the number of courses required beyond the 8 core nursing courses to reach the university’s 120-credit (30 academic units) minimum. You may receive up to 30 transfer credits for holding an RN license, which will reduce your overall course load and final cost.
Credit Evaluation
AFTER you are accepted, you will receive an official transfer credit evaluation. This evaluation determines how many credits from previous post-secondary schools will be accepted.
- If you attended a two-year institution, TCNJ can accept a maximum of 66 credits (16.5 course units).
- If you attended a four-year institution, TCNJ can accept a maximum of 90 credits (22.5 course units).
- If you attended both two-year and four-year institutions, TCNJ can accept a maximum of 90 credits combined.
- If you attended a diploma school of nursing, TCNJ can accept UP to 30 credits (7.5 course units).
Curriculum
You must have a minimum of 30 course units (120 credits) to graduate. At TCNJ, one course unit equals four credits. Your advisor will conduct a transcript review to determine which additional courses may need to be completed to obtain 30 course units to graduate from TCNJ with a bachelor’s degree.
Clinical Course
Caring in Community/Public Health uses a variety of clinical settings, from hospitals to community clinics to public health agencies to schools. Within these settings, you’ll be exposed to care for diverse populations, including children, families, and the elderly.
The Leadership Capstone course provides additional clinical experience opportunities for students.
