At a Glance

This CACREP-accredited program prepares you to work with individuals across the treatment spectrum. Select a track — generalist or addiction counseling — and supplement classes with community-based internships, independent studies, or faculty research. Upon graduation, you may meet the requirements for New Jersey licensure as a professional counselor, clinical alcohol and drug counselor, or both. You can also apply for national counselor certification.

Accelerated/Dual-Degree Program

Get a jumpstart and enter the workforce with a master’s degree. Accelerated options get you there faster and more affordably through fewer semesters of classes. Dual degrees offer a streamlined path to earning two degrees, often with direct admission to the graduate portion.

This dual-degree program is a perfect option if you are already enrolled in TCNJ’s accelerated three-year bachelor’s degree in psychology. You will complete the bachelor’s program in May of your third year and subsequently begin taking graduate courses in the summer session, which begins in June.

Students who have already earned their bachelor’s degree can also pursue the MA in clinical mental health counseling as a stand-alone offering.
