Mathematics and statistics students at TCNJ follow a program in one of four areas of focus: data science and statistics, mathematics, applied mathematics, or mathematics education. In each option, you will gain a strong foundation in mathematics and then apply complex problem-solving and technical communication skills in advanced studies according to your unique, individual goals. Accelerated/Dual-Degree Option
Get a jumpstart and enter the workforce with a master’s or professional degree. Accelerated options get you there faster and more affordably through fewer semesters of classes. Dual degrees offer a streamlined path to earning two degrees, often with direct admission to the graduate portion.
Medicine
Mathematics + Medicine, BS/MD — NJMS
First-year applicants can gain direct admission to New Jersey Medical School in this Seven-Year Medical Program (3+4).

Math and statistics skills are in increasingly high demand across all sectors of our data-driven world. Many of our majors enter the workforce as analysts, actuaries, cryptographers, data scientists, and statisticians. Others teach mathematics or pursue graduate studies —our math majors score big on entrance exams for graduate and professional schools.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities
If you’re looking to tackle research in a specialized area — from biostatistics and knot theory to machine learning, financial analysis, and pedagogical practice — you’ll have our support plus the expert guidance of a faculty mentor. We work closely with each student to turn individual goals into reality through research opportunities, internships, and/or independent study.
Faculty members conduct research in mathematics, applied mathematics, data science and statistics, and math education. As an undergraduate researcher, you will work with a faculty advisor to engage with new, exciting questions beyond the scope of the standard curriculum. Your research will familiarize you with new mathematical techniques at the forefront of mathematical and scientific knowledge and also provide you with valuable problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Our modern labs and state-of-the-art instrumentation are fully accessible to undergraduates — both as teaching tools in research-intensive courses and as investigative tools in mentored research experiences.
Faculty
Mathematics and statistics faculty are nationally recognized teacher-scholars who can make numbers do amazing things: quantify cancer growth, identify unknown authors, elucidate three-dimensional space, and innovate teaching practice. Professors are equally passionate about closely mentoring undergraduates. Their doors are always open, and our lounge is constantly filled with students.
