Put your passion for words into practice by studying journalism and professional writing at TCNJ. Our cross-disciplinary program focuses on audio, video, photo, and visual storytelling to prepare students for opportunities in multimedia news, digital magazines, broadcast journalism, and professional communications. Careers
Our program prepares you for a variety of internships and careers that entail researching, writing, and editing: everything from news features and magazine articles to newsletters, social media, and technical or business documents in both print and digital formats. You’ll also learn multimedia and digital skills to be ready for any number of careers that require exceptional written and oral communication capabilities.
Recent graduates are successfully employed locally and nationally as journalists, public relations and communication professionals, social media professionals, trade publication editors, and television production assistants, among other roles.

Experiential Learning 
As a journalism and professional writing student, you’ll develop skills and cultivate professional connections through faculty mentors who are experienced writers. You can also intern in various fields and have the chance to write for on-campus media organizations, including TCNJ’s award-winning, student-produced newspaper, The Signal. Signal staff are consistently recognized in the New Jersey Press Foundation’s annual College Newspaper Contest. Other campus media outlets include Her Campus TCNJ, a branch of the national media website for college women.
Courses
The journalism and professional writing major is interdisciplinary, offering a broad range of courses in writing and other areas of study. You will have the flexibility to design a program that aligns with your individual goals and interests. Many students pursue second majors or minors in communication studies, interactive multimedia, English, history, international studies, psychology, or marketing.
